The Serology Division comprises infection serology, immunology, immunohematology, protein diagnostics and genetics.

Due to the broad spectrum of this division, numerous different analytical methods are performed, ranging from simple agglutination tests to sophisticated enzyme immunoassays, immunofluorescence tests, electrophereses or nucleic acid tests and even complex methods such as chromosome analyses or sequencing of bacterial and eukaryontic genes.

The division has many modern analyzers such as nephelometers, ELISA processors, flow cytometers, PCR analysers or sequencing equipment. In the department of infection serology and immunology, six Tecan pipetting stations ensure a high and reproducible quality standard.

Special foci of activity are protein analyses in cerebrospinal fluid and urine, diagnosis of autoimmune diseases, therapy monitoring in hepatitis B and C and HIV infections. In the field of human genetics, molecular biological analyses of hereditary diseases, chromosomal analyses and paternity tests are performed.
